Taking place on April 3-5, the HOMC 2019 sees the participation of international contestants for the second time.
This year, 14 delegations from 14 countries and territories, including Indonesia, Malaysia, China, Nepal, Philippines, Hungary, Iran, Myanmar, Poland, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Vietnam attend the competition.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chu Xuan Dung, Director of the Department of Education and Training, Head of the Organizing Board of the HOMC 2019 said that following the success of the HOMC 2018, Hanoi has actively prepared for the competition.
It is an opportunity to detect and foster young talents of mathematics in Viet Nam and the world, he noted.
Director Chu Xuan Dung believed that the competition is also a chance for young people from many countries and territories to increase mutual understanding and international cooperation.
Participants will be divided into two groups. The group A comprises of 146 international students. Meanwhile, 511 contestants of Group B come from 24 localities across Vietnam.
The HOMC was first held by the Ha Noi Mathematical Society in 2004. In 2018, the competition drew the participation of 534 contestants from 23 provinces and cities throughout Vietnam. It was the first year the competition saw the participation of 87 foreign students from 8 countries and territories.
