According to GSO Director Nguyen Bich Lam, the 2019 population and housing census is conducted under Law on Statistics 2015 and Decision No. 772/QD-TTg dated June 26, 2018 of the Prime Minister. This is the fifth national census the country has carried out with the aim to collect basic population and housing information nationwide.
The census results will be used as the basis to evaluate the implementation of socio-economic plans for the 2011-2020 period and build strategies for the 2021-2030 period, he mentioned.
He added that this is the largest ever census to be executed, concerning approximately 26.2 million households and over 94 million people. The survey will be carried out at over 173,000 locations.

For the census to be successful, the GSO Director requested the Municipal Steering Committee to take prime responsibility and work with relevant departments, sectors to carry out the census as scheduled; strengthen the communication in the city and urge district/township Steering Committees to strictly implement guiding documents, among others.
Addressing the event, Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Doan Toan said that Hanoi has mobilized more than 12,000 census workers to collect population and housing data citywide.

Underlining the importance of the census, Vice Chairman Nguyen Doan Toan asked the Municipal Statistics Office to cooperate with departments, sectors and agencies to conduct the census on schedule.
He also requested local residents to provide full and accurate information and support investigators in data collection.
