The event saw the attendance of Politburo member, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; permanent member of the Party Central Committee (PCC)’s Secretariat Tran Quoc Vuong; Head of the PCC’s Organization Commission Pham Minh Chinh; Head of the PCC’s Communication and Education Commission Vo Van Thuong; Head of the PCC’s Economic Affairs Commission Nguyen Van Binh; Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan; PCC members: Chairman of the VFFCC Tran Thanh Man, Head of the PCC’s Internal Affairs Commission Phan Dinh Trac, Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court Nguyen Hoa Binh; and Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics Nguyen Xuan Thang.
The press prize for the fight against corruption and wastefulness in 2018-2019 launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee in collaboration with the Vietnam Journalists’ Association, Vietnam Television aims to promote the supervision and social criticism roles of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, social and political organizations as well as people and mass media in the fight against corruption and wastefulness; and encourage people and press agencies to positively combat corruption, wastefulness, "self-evolution" and "self-transformation" manifestations.
It is also a chance to honor journalists and press agencies making great contributions to the fight against corruption and wastefulness.
Speaking at the ceremony, VFFCC Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that as of June 21, 2019, the organizing board received 1,002 entries of four journalistic genres – print, online, radio and television – from more than 100 news and media outlets nationwide. 35 outstanding works were awarded, including, four A prizes, nine B prizes, 10 C prizes and 12 consolation prizes.

Addressing the ceremony, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that the Party and State have considered the fight against corruption and wastefulness as an important mission in the Party and State building work and the country's socio-economic development.
Under the leadership of the Party and State led by State President and the Party’s General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the fight has been implemented drastically and made positive changes, he added.
Accordingly, a lot of Party organizations, incumbent or retired officials and Party members have been strictly punished in the spirit of no impunity, contributing to preventing corruption and creating people’s trust.
He lauded press agencies’ great contributions to the fight while appreciating the national press for the fight against corruption and wastefulness in 2018-2019.
The press has played an important role in detecting wrongdoings, especially finding loopholes in legal frameworks, policies and mechanisms which can be a hotbed for corruption, negative phenomenon and abuse of power, the PM added, and urging all-level Fatherland Front Committees and news agencies to positively work out the Party and State’s guiding documents and solutions to combat corruption and wastefulness.
At the ceremony, the VFFCC Chairman Tran Thanh Man officially launched the 2019-20 Press Award on the fight against corruption and wastefulness.
