Giving a report at the conference, Deputy Director of the Department of Health Tran Van Chung said that the sector has launched the 2019 Action Month for Food Safety as scheduled and gained remarkable achievements.

The sector has tightened the cooperation with other sectors and collectives in disseminating food safety knowledge and regulations while enhancing the inspection task.

The city has established 699 inspection teams to check 18,989 facilities during the action month. In which, 15,501 facilities met food safety standards, accounting for 81.6%.

Inspection teams took 1,049 test samples of meat, seafood, vegetables, instant food, cereals, nuts, dried fruits, flour, bottled drinking water and ice cream.

As a result, 10,009 out of 1,049 samples met food safety standards, accounting for 96.2%.

At the conference, a representative of the Health Department rolled out preparations for the pilot specialized food safety inspection in Hanoi. Accordingly, specialized food safety inspection campaigns are scheduled to take place from July 10, 2019 to July 9, 2020.

However, there have been still many difficulties in managing and ensuring food safety as well as combating counterfeit goods and protecting consumers’ rights.

Making conclusion at the conference, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Suu appreciated the drastic participation of departments, sectors, districts and towns in the action month.

He asked the city’s entities to keep carrying out the management of food safety after the action month, elaborate more drastic measures to handle counterfeit goods and poor-quality goods, disseminate documents of the Government, the Party Committee and People’s Committee on related issues, strengthen communication to raise people’s awareness on food safety, and boost the cooperation among local authorities in inspection and handling violations.

Also, the Permanent Vice Chairman noted that departments, sectors and districts will focus on preventing the African swine fever disease from further spreading; take more measures to put the disease under control; and timely cull infected pigs.

He called on the close cooperation among involved parties from the Central level to localities so as to reinforce the fight against counterfeit goods and poor-quality goods in e-commerce transactions.
