According to Nguyen Ngoc Son, Head of the Hanoi Sub-Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, the ASF outbreak was first founded on February 24, 2019 in Long Bien District. As of April 21, 2019, the outbreaks were founded at 1,525 breeding farms in 22 districts. The total number of infected pigs culled was 21,307, equivalent to over 1,324 tons.
So far, no cases of African swine fever have been reported in Son Tay Town and Nam Tu Liem District.
From February 24 to March 31, 2019, as many as 12 districts have reported infections of African swine fever with 2,324 pigs culled, equivalent to 157 tons.
Over the past time, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has regularly coordinated with departments, sectors and local governments to enhance inspection and synchronously take measures for disease prevention and control while requesting the Sub-Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine to closely monitor the disease situation and timely prevent the spread of African swine fever; and attend hotline 02433.800.115 to receive feedback on the epidemic and food safety.
Besides, the department has regularly provided full disease information and preventive measures; intensified exchanges with other provinces and cities throughout the countries about experiences on disease prevention, especially 24 northern provinces signing a commitment with Hanoi; and taken test samples in slaughtering houses and high risk areas.
Leaders of districts point out some existing problems and difficulties in disease prevention and control.
At the conference, delegates clarified causes and difficulties in preventing the disease.
Speaking at the conference, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Suu affirmed that the city continues synchronously carrying out measures to put the disease under control in the coming time.
He underlined the need for the city to work out set missions in Directive No. 04/CT-TTg dated February 20, 2019 of the Prime Minister, and Public Telegraph No. 08/CT-UBND dated February 22, 2019 of the Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee.
Additionally, Hanoi needs to strictly maintain interdisciplinary quarantine points and establish mobile cross-functional quarantine teams to tighten the control of transport of pigs and pork products, he added.
The city leader also urged units to continue strengthening the communication on preventive measures among farming households.
Meanwhile, districts need to carry out disinfection, sterilization in high risk areas, he said, noting that farmers should apply advanced technology in livestock.
