In attendance were Politburo member, Secretary of the Ha Noi Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai; former member of the Party Central Committee (PCC), Chairman of the Viet Nam - Cambodia Friendship Association Vu Mao; PCC’s former member, former Commander of the Southwest Cambodia Front, Lieutenant General Nguyen Quoc Thuoc; Head of the Municipal Party Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilization, and Chairwoman of the Ha Noi Union of Friendship Organizations (HAUFO) Nguyen Lan Huong; Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Le Hong Son; Vice Chairwoman of the Municipal People’s Council Phung Thi Hong Ha; Commander of the Ha Noi Capital High Command Major General Nguyen Hong Thai; Chairwoman of the Ha Noi Women’s Union, Chairwoman of the Viet Nam – Cambodia Friendship Association Tran Thi Phuong Hoa; Vice Chairman of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front’s Ha Noi Chapter Nguyen Anh Tuan; among others.
Other leaders of the Party Organization and the city’s sectors, agencies, representatives of friendship unions, senior officers of the Viet Nam People's Army, and 300 former Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts in Cambodia were also in attendance.
The event was attended by Prak Nguon Hong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Viet Nam along with the Embassy staffs, Cambodian students in Viet Nam.
Addressing the meeting, Head of the Municipal Party Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilization and HAUFO Chairwoman Nguyen Lan Huong said that the victory of the southwest border protection war in Viet Nam and the overthrow of the genocidal regime in Cambodia on January 7th, 1979 opened up a new era of national independence, peace, freedom and development in the neighboring country, adding that it was also a victory of the justice cause and fighting alliance between the two nations, especially at difficult times.

Comrade Nguyen Lan Huong affirmed that Vietnamese voluntary officers, soldiers and experts will never forget support and assistance given by Cambodian soldiers and people, contributing to fostering the Viet Nam- Cambodia friendship while expressing her belief that despite difficulties, challenges, historical ups and downs, the friendship and solidarity as well as comprehensive cooperation between Viet Nam and Cambodia will be further enhanced, becoming an invaluable, sacred and sustainable asset of the two nations.
Comrade Hoang Trung Hai presents gifts to voluntary soldiers’ families
At the ceremony, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Viet Nam, Prak Nguon Hong expressed his sincere thanks and profound gratitude to great contributions of the Party, the State, the Fatherland Front, armed forces and people of Viet Nam, especially Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who died for liberating Cambodia and helping the Cambodian people escape from the genocide tragedy.
Ambassador Prak Nguon Hong hands over Badges to volunteer soldiers
Following the victory, the Vietnamese Government sent tens of thousands of officials and cadres from ministries, agencies and organizations from central to local levels to work as experts in Cambodia at the request of the National United Front and the provisionary revolutionary government of Cambodia.
Besides, Viet Nam also gave material and technical assistance to Cambodia to help the nation restore its socio-economic development, national defence-security, culture, health care and education, etc.
On the occasion, Secretary of the Ha Noi Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai presented a gift to the Cambodian Embassy in Viet Nam. Meanwhile, the Embassy handed over Badges of Cambodian Veteran to 10 outstanding former volunteer soldiers. The Ha Noi People’s Committee offered gifts to volunteer soldiers’ families in difficult circumstances.
