Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung (R) talks with Mayor of Leipzig city, Torsten Bonew.

Welcoming the delegation to Ha Noi, Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung briefed the guest on the city’s recent socio-economic development. Gross domestic product (GDP) is estimated to increase by over 8%; foreign direct investment (FDI) attraction is estimated to reach US$ 6.5 billion.

He mentioned that Ha Noi always hopes to strengthen the cooperation with German cities. Recently, the Municipal People’s Committee supported the Embassy of Germany in Viet Nam in collaboration with Goethe Institute to successfully organize the German Festival 2018 attracting various Vietnamese and foreign visitors.

However, apart from gained achievements, with its rapid urbanization, Ha Noi is facing significant challenges, such as traffic congestion, water and air pollution, he noted.

Over the past three years, the city has positively cooperated with German firms, groups and localities to deal with the above issues. Namely, the Duong River Surface Water Treatment Plant project at the first phase invested by Duong River Surface Water Company and German firms was put into operation after nearly two years of construction. Currently, the second phase of the plant with a design capacity of 300,000 cubic metres per day is being implemented.

Moreover, Ha Noi in collaboration with Germany’s Watch Water company has produced Redocy 3C to treat pollution in rivers and lakes, while also installing more than 100 air monitoring stations to take appropriate measures.

Regarding environmental pollution treatment, the city leader said that Ha Noi is building waste-to-power electricity plants using German technology and using vacuum sweepers of Germany’s Hako group, etc.

He noted that Germany owns many technological advances in many fields. Thus, the Chairman expected that the Mayor’s visit will help German firms to increase investment into Viet Nam, including Ha Noi.

Mr. Torsten Bonew affirmed that during the visit, the Leipzig delegation focuses on major fields, including wastewater treatment and clean water supply via solar-powered machines, tertiary training cooperation, and the exchange of vocational training teachers, contributing to improving the quality of vocational training teachers in Ha Noi.

On the occasion, the Mayor invited Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung along with leaders and representatives of Ha Noi businesses to attend the Leipzig Fair in 2019.

Chairman Chung thanked the Mayor for his invitation and affirming that Ha Noi will be willing to create favorable conditions for German businesses to seek opportunities to boost the cooperation.
