The event aims to encourage and promote the startup spirit among Vietnamese people in general and Hanoians in particular. Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Doan Toan was present.
Speaking at the Capita Startup Day 2018, Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Doan Toan emphasized that with the role of the Capital, an economic, political, cultural and educational centre of the country, Ha Noi has great potential to become a big startup centre.
Currently, the city has a total of 119 universities, colleges, and institutes. Since the beginning of the year, the city’s enterprise community has developed with nearly 22,000 newly-established enterprises (posting a year on year increase of 5%) and registered capital is VND 234 billion (a year on year increase of 16%), increasing the total of enterprises to nearly 252,000, and setting up target of 400.000 enterprises by 2020.
He said that the combination of knowledge, creativity, application of initiatives, start-up ideas, and use of high quality human resources from research centers, universities has created favorable conditions to develop the startup movement in the area.
Furthermore, the city authority has considered the promotion of the spirit of starting a business and innovative start-ups as one of strategic missions of the city’s socio-economic development for the 2018-2020 period.
Since 2016, in response to the national startup spirit, Ha Noi has drastically improved investment and trade environment; strengthened administrative reform to build the modern administration; simplified procedures of business registration; built e-government, smart city to support the startups.
In addition to online business registration, the city has made breakthroughs to support startup businesses. In 2018, the city spent over VND 20 billion carrying out programs of human resources for enterprises in the area; organizing a series of activities to promote supply-demand connectivity and regional links, support enterprises in programs on investment, trade and tourism promotion to introduce products in domestic and international fairs, etc.
Vice Chairman Nguyen Doan Toan affirmed that the launching of Startup Day plays an important role in connecting, establishing the innovative, startup ecosystem; promoting activities supporting startup businesses comprehensively and effectively.
To promote the organization of Startup Festival, Ha Noi will ask departments, sectors, and relevant unit to establish the network of innovation, startups, contributing to fostering the startup business community.
Under the theme “Innovative start-ups to develop the Capital”, the 2018 Startup Festival focuses on chances and challenges of the fourth industrial revolution; seeking ways to settle big issues and support startup businesses.

A conference on role of science and technology in private economic development in Viet Nam was organized in the framework of the festival. At the conference, participants focused on discussing and offering solutions to transfer knowledge, scientific and technological products, especially the fourth industrial technology and private economic development.
Besides, a wide range of activities were held, such as Pitching Competition, talk show with startup experts, Gala Dinner, etc.
