Expressing his pleasure at the official visit on the occasion of the 45th founding anniversary of the Viet Nam and Belgium diplomatic ties, Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung believed that the visit will significantly contribute to boosting the relationship between the two countries.
At the reception, he gave full information of outstanding achievements of the city’s socio-economic development. With a total area of 347 square kilometers, Ha Noi is home to nearly 10 million people living in 30 districts, suburban districts and towns.
He said that in the socio-economic development program for the period of 2016-2020, Ha Noi has selected three breakthroughs: administrative reform, infrastructure construction and education of high quality human resources with a focus on building smart city.
Regarding to the goal in the next period, the capital city will pay special attention to applying green technologies and using renewable energy, he added.
However, the city leader also noted that Ha Noi has been facing many challenges during the development progress, such as traffic congestion, environmental pollution, etc. Thus, the city hoped to reinforce the cooperation with European countries, including Belgium in the field of smart city as well as receive new technologies in air and water pollution treatment.
Expressing his impression to remarkable achievements and development of Ha Noi, Minister-President of the Flemish Government Mr. Geert Bourgeois said that all exchanges at the reception aim to further develop the cooperation between Flanders (Belgium) and Ha Noi in particular, Viet Nam in general in various fields of urban planning, urbanization and smart city, etc.
On the occasion, Mr. Geert Bourgeois invited the city leader and his entourage to visit two pilot projects on smart city in Belgium.
Thanks for the invitation of Mr. Geert Bourgeois, Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung affirmed that the city will sent a delegation to visit pilot smart city areas.
On behalf of the city leaders, he also expressed his sincere thanks to the Belgian Embassy for the organization of “A touch of Belgium” cultural event.
The Chairman expected that the visit will open chances for Belgian enterprises to invest in Ha Noi and confirmed that the city’s authority will create favorable conditions for their business activities in the area.
