Giving a report at the session, leader of the Department of Education and Training said that at present, Ha Noi has a total of 2,641 schools at all education levels with 1,869,113 pupils and 107,836 teachers. In 2017, the sector focused on settling the shortage of schools and classrooms in inner districts.
In the 2016-2017 school year, the sector started the construction of 33 schools; recorded 130 schools meeting national criteria (reaching 162.5% against the plan), increasing the number of national standard schools to 52%.
Especially, the Department of Education and Training deployed online enrollment software in the 2016-2017 school year, marking the determination of implementing the Government’s guideline on strengthening the application of information technology in management, operation and administrative reform.
Over the last year, Ha Noi has effectively deployed and ensured the quality of English program under the project “Teaching and learning a foreign language in the national education system for the 2008-2020 period”.
Besides, the sector has proactively boosted international cooperation in education; increased training programs with foreign partners; piloted Cambridge International A levels at Chu Van An High School, creating the premise to strengthen the integration and internationalization of high school training standards of Ha Noi.
Furthermore, Ha Noi has deployed international computer programs, such as MOS, IC3 and IC3 Spark at six high schools and some primary and secondary schools in Cau Giay, Nam Tu Liem.
In 2018, apart from well implementing nine key missions and five solution groups in the 2017-2018 school year, the sector will focus on deploying and innovating a number of duties, such as: building and planning the network of schools; enhancing the building of national standard schools; further improving the quality of teachers, managers and staffs; boosting international integration in education and training, etc.
Particularly, in 2018, the capital city will continue deploying the document “Education of elegant and civilized lifestyle for students”; set up the thematic document “Education of safe traffic for students in high school in Ha Noi”, significantly contributing to improving the quality of moral education for students as well as increasing pupils’ self-consciousness of law enforcement and cultural behavior when they participate in traffic and building Program 04 of the Municipal Party Committee, etc.
Making the conclusion at the working session, Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Ngo Van Quy recognized the sector’s results in 2017. He asked the sector to review the shortage of schools in localities and point out advantages and difficulties in building high quality schools and national standard ones.
He also requested the Department of Education and Training to set up and submit important issues to the Municipal People’s Council; offer preferential policies to implement the school milk project, contributing to improving nutritional status and stature of kindergarten and primary students for the 2018-2020 period in the capital city.
