2018 Spring Calligraphy Festival officially opens (06:46 14/02/2018)


HNP - The opening ceremony of the 2018 Spring Calligraphy Festival was held at Literature Lake (Ho Van) at Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam (the Temple of Literature) on February 9. The event saw the attendance of Deputy Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism Dang Thi Bich Lien.


Delegates cut the ribbon to kick off the event.


This year’s event features the participation of 63 calligraphers taking part in a range of calligraphy writing activities.

As many as 34 outstanding calligraphy works are being showcased in an exhibition for the festival. They were crafted with a variety of materials and in a variety of styles, recording famous sayings, lines of poetry, proverbs, and folk verses.

During the festival a retrospective display will be on show, helping visitors learn more about the country’s education during the feudal period.

Additionally, visitors to the festival will have a chance to enjoy the traditional food of Hanoians as well as take in performances of traditional music. Many cultural activities are also held under the framework of the event, such as arts program, folk games to introduce and promote the intangible cultural heritages.

At the opening ceremony, the organizing board presented two first, two second, and two third prizes to calligraphers with the most outstanding works in the 2018 Spring Calligraphy Competition.

Writing calligraphy is popular for local people during Tet. The festival aims to welcome the New Year and promote the Vietnamese tradition.


The event will last until February 25.
