According to Deputy Director of the municipal Social Insurance Agency Nguyen Duc Hoa, by March 2017, 5,889,565 citizens have joined voluntary health insurance, bringing the local insurance coverage to 82.3 percent.
Ha Noi has collected VND 6,953.7 billion from social insurance, health insurance and unemployment insurance, gaining 20.9 percent of the year plan, an increase of 21 percent over the same period last year.
About 55,747 units, including 48,637 enterprises operating in Ha Noi have joined the local social insurance and health insurance network with 1,447,572 labor.
However, Ha Noi’s social insurance debt remained high at more than VND 3,166 billion by March, 2017.
The agency has planned to increase interdisciplinary and specialized inspections in late 2017, as well as publish information regarding health and social insurance on the city’s portal, aiming to protect rights of local workers.
The agency also assesses application of information technology in medical checkup management and health insurance payment.
Viet Nam has set to have at least 90 percent of its population covered with health insurance by 2020 with some localities assigned to increase their health insurance holders to nearly 100 percent.
