The event drew the participation of Chairman of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front’s Ha Noi Chapter Vu Hong Khanh; Vice Chairmen of the Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen The Hung and Ngo Van Quy; Vice Chairwoman of the Municipal People’s Council Phung Thi Hong Ha; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Head of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs Vu Hong Nam, among others.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung said that over the past year, Ha Noi has synchronously and drastically deployed measures, solutions for macroeconomic stabilization and socio-economic development.
After all, in 2017, the capital city fulfilled 20 targets of the socio-economic development and recorded high economic growth rate. Particularly, gross product witnessed a sharp increase of 7.3% - the highest rate over seven recent years; the total revenue of state budget exceeded 2.8% against the estimate, representing a year on year increase of 17%; export turnover surged 10.3% and import turnover was up 18.2%. Especially, Ha Noi received 23.8 million tourists, up 9%, in which, 4.95 million of them were international travelers, up 23%.
Additionally, the capital city has been an attractive locality to attract domestic investment with an increase of 28%. In 2017, 25,160 new enterprises were established, up 11%; social investment increased by 10.5%.
Besides, Ha Noi officially launched an incubator for innovation information technology (IT) enterprises and StartupCity.vn portal; put into operation 611 online public services at level 3, 4.
Furthermore, Ha Noi gained great achievements in fields of culture, education, health and sports. The city also paid special attention to new style rural area program, social welfare policies, security and national defence, external activities and integration, etc.
Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung emphasized that along with efforts of local authorities, people and enterprises, overseas Vietnamese communities have made significant contributions to the above achievements.
He confirmed that the capital city considers overseas Vietnamese as a bridge to attract foreign investments as well as introduce culture and image of Ha Noi to international friends.

The city leader said that in 2018, Ha Noi will continue to build a peaceful, green, civilized and modern Capital; strengthen administrative reform and improve investment, trade environment and competitiveness; mobilize available resources for development; shift the economic growth model; socialize all resources to create breakthroughs for private investment and attract foreign investment; ensure social welfare to improve people’s living standards; improve the efficiency of external activities and international integration.
To get the targets, the Chairman expected that overseas Vietnamese will join hands for the development of the capital city and the country. He affirmed that the city always welcomes them back to their hometown to engage in national development. He also expected overseas Vietnamese to continue bringing into full play the national tradition, contributing to fostering the relations between Ha Noi and capitals, cities all over the world.
On the occasion of Tet, on behalf of city leaders, Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung expressed his thanks to overseas Vietnamese communities for their great contributions to building and developing the Capital and the country. He also extended a healthy, happy and successful New Year wish to all overseas Vietnamese.
