Established on May 21, 1996, Viet Nam-US Friendship Association’s Ha Noi chapter has been growing constantly and achieved many outstanding achievements. The association has 19 chapters with 2,000 members.
In 2012-2017 tenure, the association has maintained its role in bilateral friendly activities between Viet Nam and the US as well as the common activities of HAUFO, such as: U.S. Independence Day Celebration in Ha Noi, events to mark the establishment of the U.S.-Viet Nam Comprehensive Partnership.
Additionally, the association has maintained a relationship with the Asian Environment Program of the United States to exchange information, organize a number of exchanges, talks about the socio-cultural situation of the United States and the Viet Nam-US relations.
Additionally, the association also organizes numerous activities to strengthen cooperation in the fields of training, science and technology, contributing to strengthening the friendship solidarity with the international friend in general and with the people of the United States in particular; strengthening the promotion of images of the country, people and the the capital to the people of the United States.
In the 2017-2022 tenure, the Ha Noi chapter will strengthen the organization and operation of its executive board and chapters, along with increasing communications work as well as cultural and artistic exchanges; maintain and strengthen relations with the Embassy of US in Viet Nam; coordinate with US partners to organize activities marking major events of the two countries and strengthen its ties with the US Embassy in Viet Nam; team up with relevant municipal departments and agencies to help Ha Noi authorities select suitable US cities to expand friendly ties and economic links; promote Ha Noi’s potential and investment opportunities and seek US donations for social and humanitarian projects, supporting disabled children in difficult circumstances in the city.
Addressing the congress, Counsellor for Public Relations at the US Embassy Molly Stephenso applauded the association’s efforts in promoting relations between Viet Nam and the US and their people.
She highlighted the increasing number of Vietnamese students in the US, from 800 in 1995 to 31,000 at present, saying that it demonstrates the fruitful relationship between the two countries.
The fifth congress selected the association’s 27-member executive board for the 2017-2022 tenure with Nguyen Hong Son - Director of the Ha Noi Institute for Socio-Economic Studies, as President of the Association.
