Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Ha Noi Party Committee Ngo Thi Thanh Hang and Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung also attended the conference.
After implementing the Resolution for one year, Ha Noi has gained remarkable achievements in tourism sector. The city and Cable News Network (CNN) signed a communications cooperation agreement to promote the history, culture, people and unique beauty of Ha Noi to the world in 2017 and 2018. Two 30-second promotion videos featuring the capital’s scenery and heritage have been screened on the Cable News Network (CNN).
The capital city has reviewed and implemented Planning for tourism development; developing Planning on development of Ba Vi - Suoi Hai tourist resort into a national tourist area up to 2025 with orientation to 2030; approved detailed planning on preservation and development of the traditional craft villages combining with tourism in Bat Trang pottery village, Van Phuc silk village with a scale of 1/500 as a basis for sustainable tourism development.
Additionally, the capital has conducted a series of activities to convert tourism into a spearhead economic sector. The newly-opened pedestrian areas around Hoan Kiem Lake have been welcomed by thousands of people, including local and foreign tourists, who flock to the area to enjoy the walking space and a range of cultural, musical and art performances.
The city has piloted to allow bars in the Ha Noi Old Quarter to open until 2am on weekend and offer free wifi at some tourist sites.
Notably, the city has started to build a number of modern institutions to serve tourism, such as: Kim Quy cultural, tourism and amusement park in Vinh Ngoc Commune, Dong Anh District which meets international standards; National Exhibition Center in Dong Anh District; Tuan Chau Ecopark township and entertainment project in Quoc Oai District, etc.
In 2016, the city welcomed around 21.83 million visitors, up 11 percent year-on-year and higher than the 8-10 percent annual growth rate set in the resolution. In the first seven months of this year, Ha Noi welcomed over 14 million tourists, representing a year-on-year increase of 9 percent.
Of the number, the number of international tourists to Ha Noi was estimated at 2,786,187, up 19 percent over the same period last year; 1,990,136 international tourists made their stay in the capital city, an increase of 17 percent in comparison to the same period last year. The number of domestic visitors was estimated at 11,239,500, representing a year-on-year increase of 6 percent. Total earnings from tourism services hit VND 41,579 billion, representing an increase of 14 percent year-on-year.
Addressing the conference, Secretary of the Ha Noi Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai urged to develop signature tourist products with a higher quality, attract more investment to improve infrastructure, and enhance human resource training for those working in tourist facilities and services, as well as tourist managers.
It’s also necessary to strengthen the efficiency of State management over tourism, learn experiences from countries in the region having developed tourism; in addition to the development of domestic tourism products, it’s also necessary to research and better meet the shopping needs of visitors when coming to Ha Noi, he stressed.
