Ha Noi, Ontario seek stronger educational ties (18:53 07/12/2017)


HNP - Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung on December 5 hosted a reception for Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne on the occasion of her working visit in Ha Noi.

At the reception, the two sides expressed delight at recent progress in Viet Nam-Canada relations and believed that the visiting will further consolidate the bilateral relations between the two countries in general and Ha Noi and Ontario in particular.

On the occasion, the City’s Chairman informed the guests about the Ha Noi’s socio-economic situations as well as a number of development policies and guidelines.

In 2016-2020 period, Ha Noi will focus on three breakthrough points, including uniformly developing and step-by-step modernizing the urban and rural infrastructure, continuing to step up the administrative reform and improve the investment environment and enhancing the quality of human resource.

Chairman Chung stressed that Viet Nam and Canada in general as well as Ha Noi and Ontario in particular have many similarities in culture, development priorities.

He voiced his hope that the visit, together with the support of the Canadian Embassy, will serve as a bridge for strengthening bilateral cooperation between two sides, especially in the development of education and training, applying IT in administrative reform, health development, training human resources for the administration and enterprises of Ha Noi; tourism promotion, clean technology transfer as well as exchanging experience on business investment, etc.

Ontario is running 22 projects worth nearly US$ 6 million; while two-way trade reached about US$ 100 million. However, the rate of bilateral trade and investment is still modest and far from expectations. Ha Noi wishes to promote the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two sides in the the spirit of mutual benefit, Chairman Chung added.

In turn, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne said that the Canadian business community as well as organizations are very interested in Viet Nam and Ha Noi. The visit is an illustration of the Canadian Government and Ontario’s interest in the Southeast Asian nation and Ha Noi.

With its strengths and long-standing experience in infrastructure development, business investment and clean technology research, Ontario is one of Canada's leading economic operators. It is also considered as the second largest center of high technology in the Americas, with many clean water treatment technologies. Ontario is always ready to seek partners around the globe, including Viet Nam, she said.

 At the reception, Wynne said Ontario is ready to cooperate and share experience in training teachers and improving general education.
