Delegates check bus route 2 Yen Nghia Bus Station – Bac Co
As scheduled, the delegation started the bus rapid transit (BRT) route 1 from Yen Nghia Bus Station, and then caught a normal bus route 2 (Yen Nghia Bus Station – Bac Co).
According to Director of the Ha Noi Urban Traffic Operation and Management Center Nguyen Hoang Hai, at present, a part from the BRT 1 (Kim Ma – Yen Nghia Bus Station), Ha Noi records 109 bus routes with nearly 1,800 vehicles, more than 4,000 drivers and ticker sellers. In July, 2017, the capital city finished the building of government-subsidized bus systems in 30 districts, suburban districts and towns in the area. Thus, on average, the bus transportation system can serve 1.1 million of passengers per day.
In addition, Deputy General Director of the Transerco Nguyen Cong Nhat noted that, in recent years, although Ha Noi has paid attention to expanding the network of bus routes, the infrastructure for buses has not been developed, so, it is difficult for the public transportation system to operate effectively.
On behalf of the delegation of the Municipal People’s Council Pham Dinh Doan talked about the comparison between the two bus systems, and objective assessment, efficiency and difficulties in developing the public transport bus system in Ha Noi.
Along with recording and highly appreciating efforts of the city’s transport sector in developing public transport vehicles over the past time, delegates also emphasized shortcomings of the connection between buses and private traffic vehicles of local people.
Delegates travel on the BRT 1 (Kim Ma – Yen Nghia Bus Station).
Besides, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Viet Nam Journalists Association Ho Quang Loi suggested that, to deal with traffic jams and environmental pollution in Ha Noi, the capital city should build the public transport bus system to meet traffic demands of people as well as develop the BRT route; continue researching to boost the connection between the BRT and normal bus routes for better efficiency. To develop the public transport system, he added, the capital city should resolve four key elements, including: facilities for buses, local people’s attitudes for the public transport bus services, new policies and efficiency of using the bus routes.
On behalf of units in charge of implementing the public transportation, Director of the Ha Noi Transport Department Vu Van Vien received all comments of delegates. He also committed that the department will continue carrying out the research and adjustment so as to improve the efficiency of the public transport bus services throughout the capital city.
