Ha Noi, Luang Prabang to strengthen cooperation (12/10/2017)

HNP – Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung on October 11 hosted a reception for a high-ranking delegation of Laos’ Luang Prabang province, led by Khamkhan Chanthavisouk, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and the province’s Governor.

Ha Noi Chairman warmly welcomed the delegation, saying that the visit is necessary to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Ha Noi and Luang Prabang.

The visit also contributed to enhancing the special friendship between the two Parties, States and the peoples of Viet Nam and Laos.

At the reception, the two sides informed each other about political, economic and social situation in their respective city and province.

In the first nine months of 2017, Ha Noi recorded a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate of 8.1 percent. The city collected VND 146.4 trillion for the State budget, representing a year-on-year increase of over 11.6 percent. The city attracted over 300 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a registered capital of over US$ 2.2 billion. Total social investment reached over VND 174 trillion and expected to reach VND 200 trillion by 2017, an increase of 11 percent over the previous year.

As many as 17.8 million visitors traveled to Ha Noi in the first nine months of this year, representing a year-on-year increase of 9 percent. That figure included 3.56 million international arrivals, up 23.5 percent year on year.

Luang Prabang Governor Khamkhan Chanthavisouk expressed his sincere thanks for the warm welcome they received from the Ha Noi leaders. He also briefed the host on Luang Prabang province’s recent socio-economic achievements.

He conveyed sincere gratitude to Ha Noi for its precious support and effective cooperation over the past time, especially for the assistance to the construction of the Luang Prabang Political, Administration School; sending experts to help Luang Prabang develop flowers and orange growing areas; deploying free heart check-up program for Luang Prabang children.


He hopes that two localities will regularly exchange high-level delegations to further strengthen the traditional friendship and cooperation; continue to call on Ha Noi businesses to invest in Luang Prabang, while supporting the province to build a friendship road named Ha Noi- Luang Prabang.

In response, Chairman Chung affirmed that Ha Noi always sends delegation to exchange experiences and strengthen cooperation with Luang Prabang province in various fields.

Ha Noi will continue to expand and promote efficiency cooperative programs with Luang Prabang in the fields of health and agriculture that the two sides are implementing, expanding the scope of medical treatment, and providing free medicines for children in the highlands of Luang Prabang; sharing experience in conservation and promoting cultural heritage as well as cooperation in tourism development, he added.

Especially, the two sides should regularly exchange cultural and artistic performances to enhance exchanges, cooperation in this area. Chairman Chung underlined that he will call on Ha Noi businesses to explore, cooperate and invest in Luang Prabang and expressed his hope that Luang Prabang government will facilitate investors in Ha Noi.
