Effort increased to respond to storm Talas (17/07/2017)
HNP – The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control issued Public Telegraph 19/CD-TW dated July 15, requesting Steering Committees for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Search and Rescue of costal cities and provinces from Quang Ninh to Quang Ngai, provinces in the North and North Central Coast, and ministries as well as sectors to respond to tropical storm Talas.
Accordingly, the ministries, sectors and localities keep close watch over the movement of the storm, rain and flood, and provide up-to-date information on mass media to the people, enterprises and governments at all levels for storm prevention and response.
Provinces from Ha Tinh to Quang Ninh finish following tasks by 5PM of July 16: calling on ships and boats to head back to shelters; providing guidance, and arranging anchorage to ensure safety for the boats and ships in the shelters; ordering all ships and boats to remain in shelters, even cargo ships and cruises; evacuating people from vessels, aquaculture places and low-lying coastal areas to safe places; giving direction to strengthen houses, prune trees and implement measures for safety of mines, harbors and tourist attractions.
Provinces in the North and North Central Coast proactively arrange drainage of newly cultivated crops, and amend cultivation plan to minimize damages caused by heavy rain; conduct examination, and prepare plan to ensure safety of dykes, dam and reservoirs, especially key dykes, vulnerable reservoirs and works under construction or preparation; mobilize manpower to control and ensure safety of people and vehicles during the rain and flood; promptly take urban drainage measures to respond to flooding; increase warning, and prepare plans to ensure safety of downstream area when discharging from reservoirs; increase manpower to proactively handle incidents, and report to the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.
