Viet Nam Ethnic Groups’ Cultural Day opens (21/04/2017)

HNP – An art program celebrating Viet Nam Ethnic Groups’ Cultural Day (April 19) was organized at the Viet Nam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in Dong Mo tourism area of Son Tay Tow (Dong Mo District).

The event saw the attendance of Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Education and Information Vo Van Thuong, Chairman of the NA's Ethnic Affairs Council Ha Ngoc Chien, Chairman of the NA's Committee for Culture, Education, Youth, Adolescents and Children Phan Thanh Binh, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien and leaders of ministries, central agencies, sectors, People’s Committee of cities and province nationwide.

In his opening remarks, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien said that, on November 17, 2008,  the Prime Minister issued a decision marking April 19 as the Day of Viet Nam’s Ethnic Cultures. On the occasion, the central and local agencies organize diverse practical activities to preserve and uphold the traditional cultural value of Vietnamese ethnic communities; enhance the great national unity bloc.

In recent year, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has collaborated with relevant ministries, sectors to propose and issue important policies on ethnic and ethnic culture.


In 2016, the ministry organized many practical activities such as seminars and conferences with the theme of upholding the cultural heritage of ethnic groups in Viet Nam; instruct localities to organize events to celebrate Viet Nam Ethnic Groups’ Cultural Day, etc.

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism suggested that all levels and branches should pay more attention and adopt appropriate policies to further promote the values of the cultural heritage of ethnic groups in Viet Nam.

A wide range of unique cultural activities will be organized on the framework of the event from April 19-23, such as: reproducing traditional festivals of ethnic minority groups, including a ceremony to worship ancestors of Lo Lo people in Ha Giang; organizing an exhibition and performance entitled ‘Bamboo in Vietnamese national music’; traditional martial arts performances; reproducing the traditional daily life of ethnic communities.
 
In addition, visitors will have a chance to join traditional folk games such as tug-of-war along with performances of national music. The traditional Vietnamese tug-of-war folk game was added to UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity icons.
 
The opening ceremony and an arts program entitled ‘Melody from the forests’ draws participation of patriarchs, artisans and people from ethnic minority groups across the country including Muong (Hoa Binh), Thai (Nghe An), Kho Mu (Dien Bien), E De (Dak Lak), San Chay (Thai Nguyen), Dao (Hanoi), Ta Oi (Thua Thien – Hue), Khmer (Soc Trang), Lo Lo (Ha Giang), H’re (Quang Ngai), Gia Rai (Gia Lai) and Co Tu (Quang Nam).
