The event saw the attendance of Politburo member, Secretary of the Ha Noi Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai; former Politburo member, former Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi; member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee Ngo Thi Thanh Hang, among others.
In attendance were Ngo Thi Doan Thanh, former member of the Party’s Central Committee, former Chairwoman of the Municipal People’s Council; Tran Thi Huong, Vice Chairwoman of Viet Nam Women’s Union; Nguyen Lan Huong, Head of the Municipal Party Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilization; Phung Thi Hong Ha, Vice Chairwoman of the Municipal People’s Council; Ngo Van Quy, Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee.
At the ceremony, delegates offered incense in commemoration of the Trung Sisters.
Addressing the ceremony, Chairman of Hai Ba Trung district People’s Committee Vu Dai Phong recalled the upraising which broke out on the sixth day of the second lunar month in 40 AD. against the Han invaders to reclaim national independence after more than 200 years under foreign rule.
After defeating the invaders, the elder sister Trung Trac proclaimed Queen of the independent country. Her reign lasted three years as in the year 43 A.D. the Han army returned and defeated the Trung Sisters and their army, forcing them to commitsuicide by throwing themselves into Hat Giang River.
The festival features several rituals such as incense offering, a palanquin procession and folk performances, among others.
