More attention must be paid to people in flooded areas (21:39 08/08/2018)


HNP – Comrade Hoang Trung Hai, Politburo member, Secretary of the Ha Noi Party Committee, on August 4th, had a working session and checked disaster prevention and control in Chuong My District.

The delegation included Permanent Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan; Permanent Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Suu; Head of the Municipal Party Committee’s Commission for Education and Popularization Nguyen Van Phong; Director of the Department of Police, Major General Doan Duy Khuong; Commander of the Ha Noi Capital High Command - Major General Nguyen Doan Anh.


The delegation led by Secretary Hoang Trung Hai checked the consolidation of the dike system of Bui river in Thanh Binh Commune; visited and encouraged households suffering from floods in Nam Phuong Tien Commune.


Giving a report to the Secretary, Dinh Manh Hung, Chairman of the district People’s Committee said that on July 21st, the water level of the Bui River was over seven meters, thus, the local authorities evacuated residents to safer areas.

He highlighted the positive participation of local people, police and armed forces in the disaster prevention work and the embankment of the Bui river.

 

The district authorities have ensured social order, security,  protected local people’s lives and property, and paid special attention to residents’ lives.

 

In addition, Chuong My District has cooperated with the Department of Health to provide health checkups for nearly 2,000 households.

According to Major General Nguyen Doan Anh, Commander of the Ha Noi Capital High Command, the unit have mobilized nearly 1,500 soldiers to join local people to consolidate the Bui River dyke so as to minimize losses of people and their property.


Major General Doan Duy Khuong also said that the Municipal Police Department will provide boats, and 1,200 life jackets to the district.


According to Permanent Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Suu, the city provided 36 tons of rice and other vital commodities. On August 4th, the city supplied more 50 tons of rice and 8,000 bottles of drinking water and 8,000 packets of soup powder to flood victims.

At the working session, Secretary Hoang Trung Hai highly appreciated the participation of authorities and people in districts of Chuong My, Quoc Oai and units in flood control work.


Regarding the flooding situation, the Secretary requested Chuong My District to review the tasks and pay special attention to local people’s lives.

He also urged police and armed forces, local authorities to mobilize human resources to monitor the situation.


The Department of Industry and Trade needs to well control prices and origin of goods and ensure food safety in flooded areas, he assigned.


He asked the Department of Health to continue establishing working teams to provide health checkups and treatment for people, especially launching more environmental sanitation campaigns to prevent disease outbreak.


He also assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to work with the district to review and evaluate damages so as to take measures to support and facilitate the recovery work after the water recedes.


The Municipal People Committee should cooperate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to offer solution to consolidate the dike system along the Bui river in response natural disasters and make a plan on water drainage systems on Bui and Day rivers, he noted.
