The 2017 Bui Xuan Phai – For the Love of Ha Noi Awards ceremony organized in Ha Noi (20:55 21/08/2017)

HNP - The 2017 Bui Xuan Phai – For the Love of Ha Noi Awards ceremony was held by The thao & Van hoa (Sports and Culture) Newspaper of Viet Nam News Agency (VNA) in Ha Noi on August 17, marking a decade of honoring lovers of the capital city.  

On behalf of leaders of Ha Noi, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung receives Job Prize – for the Love of Ha Noi.

The awarding ceremony drew the participation of Member of the Party Central Committee and Chairman of the Ha Noi Party Committee Nguyen Duc Chung; Member of the Party Central Committee and General Director of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) journalist Nguyen Duc Loi; Permanent Vice Chairman of the Viet Nam Journalists Association, journalist Ho Quang Loi and  representatives of the jury, organizations and individuals named in the list of nominees.


The awards were initiated in 2008 by the Vietnam News Agency (VNA)’s Sports & Culture Newspaper and the family of the late famous painter Bui Xuan Phai (1920-1988) to honor those who contribute to spreading the love for the capital city.
This year, the Council of Examiners includes poet Bang Viet, Chairman of the Ha Noi Literature and Art Union (Head of the jury); journalist Ho Quang Loi, Deputy Permanent Chairman of the Viet Nam Journalists’ Association; historian Duong Trung Quoc, Vice President and General Secretary of the Viet Nam Association of Historical Sciences; journalist Ngo Ha Thai, Former Deputy General Director of Viet Nam News Agency; and Associate Professor and Architect Hoang Dao Kinh.
After two rounds, the jury selected 10 official nominations and offered 6 prizes for 4 categories: Grand Prize, Idea Prize, Job Prize and Work Prize. 
This year, photographer Nguyen Huu Bao, with his photo book “Ha Noi dau yeu” (Beloved Ha Noi)”, and writer Bang Son, with his two books “Lang thang nguoi Ha Noi” (Hanoians’ wandering pleasure), “Thu an choi nguoi Ha Noi” (Hanoians’ culinary pleasure) received the Work Prize.
The Idea Prize went to  the Ha Noi Department of Transport for its project on reducing traffic jams and environmental pollution for 2017-2020 with a vision to 2030. 
The two Job Prizes were awarded, one to the Ha Noi administration for the establishment of pedestrian areas around the Hoan Kiem Lake, and another to Paul George Harding, a US war veteran, who has cleaned the capital’s lanes by removing posters from walls.
Speaking at the awarding ceremony, Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung highly appreciated and thanked the VNA and Bui Xuan Phai’s family for organizing the awards to honor great contributions of domestic and foreign organizations, individuals to Ha Noi’s development.  
He also emphasized that over the past ten years, the Bui Xuan Phai – For the Love of Hanoi awards has affirmed its role and position in the country’s socio-political and cultural development. Leaders and people of Ha Noi highly appreciated ideas, jobs and contributions of authors to Ha Noi.
Talking about the Job Prize for building walking street around the Hoan Kiem Lake, the Chairman affirmed that the city’s authorities and people have jointly tried the best to manage and maintain civilized lifestyle, culture in pedestrian area, contributing to turning walking street into a cultural and tourist destination for local people and international travelers at the weekend.
