At the reception, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Ha Noi People's Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan affirmed that Ha Noi always value promoting ties with ASEAN member states, including Thailand, stressing that the friendship and long-standing relationship between Viet Nam and Thailand in general and the capital of the two countries in particular have contributed to boosting cooperation, peace, stability and friendship in the region and the world.
Vice Chairman Tuan reviewed the cooperation and friendship between the two sides in recent time. People's Council of two cities had signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in 2001 and the Ha Noi People's Committee has signed a cooperation program with the Bangkok Mayor in many fields, such as culture, education, health, etc and outlined tasks for the near future.
Two sides agreed to further strengthen collaboration and exchange of experience to tighten friendship and solidarity relationship.
He also informed the guests about the socio-economic situations of Ha Noi in 2016 and the first half of 2017. The city's economy achieved 8.5-percent growth. The political security, social order and safety have been maintained. The city also regularly removes difficulties for businesses and achieved positive result.
However, the rate of bilateral trade and investment of the two sides remains modest and far from expectations, Tuan said.
He voiced his hope that Bangkok would increase the sharing of its experience in State management, urban issues and investment, among others, with Ha Noi.

Mr. Tuan stressed that the promotion of friendship and cooperation between the two countries and two cities has important implications in the ASEAN community; therefore, the two sides should develop the relationships with new heights, new goals.
For his part, Vice Chairman of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council Nirunde Praditkul expressed his sincere thanks for the warm welcome they received from the Ha Noi People's Council.
He took the occasion to invite Ha Noi senior officials to visit and work in Bangkok to prepare for the meeting with ASEAN senior presidents.
He also highly appreciated the growth and development of Ha Noi. He said that Thailand is paying attention to developing transport connectivity with the ASEAN member states and China to facilitate travelling and trade, adding that Thailand plans to expand road connecting Bangkok with Laos and Viet Nam.
