In 2017, apart from dengue fever, other diseases have been controlled well in Ha Noi, such as Japanese encephalitis, meningococcal encephalitis, foot-hand-mouth disease, stomatitis, rubella, etc. Regarding the dengue fever alone, the capital city recorded 37,651 cases with seven deaths.
Coping with diseases, the Department of Health advised the Municipal People’s Committee to issue a series of directive documents so as to strengthen measures for disease prevention and control and avoid outbreaks.
Additionally, the Department has launched campaigns on environmental sanitation, larvae killing and chemical spraying; enhanced monitoring of the disease outbreaks in the world, the region, Viet Nam and the capital city.
Especially, in 2017, facing with dengue fever outbreaks, the Department of Health has coordinated with Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development, Education and Training to implement various measures for disease prevention and control.
Particularly, the Municipal Steering Committee on Disease Prevention and Control and leaders of departments, districts, suburban districts and towns enhanced inspection in localities to offer suitable measures to prevent dengue fever epidemic.
Besides, the Department of Health in collaboration with the Preventive Health Center established inspection teams to monitor campaigns on environmental sanitation and chemical spraying in communes, wards and towns, etc.

Addressing the event, Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Ngo Van Quy praised achievements in disease prevention and control gained by the health sector over the past year. However, he also pointed out shortcomings and weaknesses which need removing in the coming time.
To effectively implement disease prevention and control as well as minimize deaths due to infectious diseases, contributing to protecting and caring for public health and improving the socio-economic development, on behalf of the city’s leaders, the Vice Chairman asked the Department of Health to well perform its specialized duties and promote the prevention of Winter-Spring diseases.
He underlined that it is necessary to strengthen communication to raise the people’s awareness on disease prevention; launch environmental sanitation campaigns in key communes, wards since the beginning of the year; supervise old outbreaks, high risk areas; ensure enough funds, medicines, equipments, chemicals to meet demands of disease prevention; well implement emergency, treatment of patients to minimize deaths; boost the inter-sectorial cooperation in carrying out measures for disease prevention and control.
Vice Chairman Ngo Van Quy also assigned districts, suburban districts and towns to take direct responsibility for the disease prevention task in localities.
