1,340 food safety violators handled in first half of 2017 (15:36 16/07/2017)

HNP - Despite of effort to increase popularization, inspection and severe punishment for violations, Ha Noi still witnesses further food poisoning cases.

In the past six months, Ha Noi founded 762 missions of inspection and examination, of which 32 missions of the city and 730 missions of the districts, suburban districts and towns. Authorities checked 49,923 food establishments. 6,228 of them violated food safety regulations; 1,340 were punished, and 398 were fined over VND 10.6 billion. Unsafe products were destructed; total amount was estimated over VND 1 billion.   

In the Lunar New Year, New Year’s Eve and spring festival, Ha Noi checked 38,102 food establishments, detected 6,784 violators and handled 6,249 of them. 1,758 facilities were fined over VND 10.9 billion, and unsafe products were destructed with total amount of around VND 1.4 billion. Authorities also checked 13,600 facilities in an effort to prevent methanol poisoning, punished 1,480 of them, destructed 24,159 litters alcohols of unclear origin, and fined around VND 3.3 billion. During the Action Month for Food Safety 2017, unscheduled inspection was conducted in 22,323 establishments; 18,416 of them were recognized for meeting requirements, accounting for 82.4%; 3,587 violated regulations, and 1,236 were fined nearly VND 5.4 billion.

In the first half of 2017, Ha Noib also recorded 31 cases of methanol poisoning. The Municipal People’s Committee urged drastic measures, and mobilized the whole political system for popularization and inspection of alcohol products. The Department of Health in coordination with relevant agencies, departments and People’s Committees of districts, suburban districts and towns conducted investigation and timely dealt with incidents.
