Accordingly, the Department has carried out many activities to protect environment in the city.
Particularly, the Department has focused on fulfilling the tasks assigned by the city, including strengthening environmental protection by 2020 and the following years; removing existing problems and weaknesses and carrying out tasks and urgent measures for environmental protection; implementing the project on hazardous medical waste treatment for the period of 2016-2020, the project on collection and treatment of hazardous waste in the city to 2020, with vision to 2025; and implementing the project on environmental protection in craft villages in Hanoi by 2020 with a vision for 2030.
Besides, the Department has effectively operated ten automatic air monitoring stations, and six automatic surface water monitoring stations; updated air quality information on Hanoi Portal and the department’s website; and increased investment in environmental monitoring projects in the city.
Notably, the Department conducted environmental inspections in producing and trading facilities; received and handled 50 environmental pollution cases in the city through hotlines.
In terms of communication on environmental protection, the Department in collaboration with the Hanoi Party Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education has held press meetings on making plans and measures to reduce air pollution in the city.
The Department also worked with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to conduct communication campaigns on Earth Hour – a annual event with the aim of protecting the environment, saving energy and adapting to climate change while taking action to stop the use of beehive-shaped coal bricks as well as reduce straw burning in the city.
